Position Summary:

SECU, Maryland’s largest credit union with over $2 billion in assets and a commitment to quality member service, is looking for talented individuals to join our Lending division as a Mortgage Underwriter specializing in FHA loans.

This position is responsible for the risk evaluation and credit decisioning of residential mortgage applications, including compliance with SECU, Federal/State and Freddie Mac guidelines.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Underwrite conventional and FHA loans to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, as well as underwriting guidelines from FHLMC, MI Companies and Investors.
* Underwrite residential loans in accordance with established service levels.
* Review pre-qualification and final applications to confirm data integrity.
* Review and analyze appraisals and purchase contracts.
* Secure MI when required.
* Make decision on the credit worthiness of the borrower.
* Issue loan approval, counter offer, or denial.
* Serve as a subject matter expert to all underwriters and originators.
* Post daily rates, as needed.
* Special projects as assigned by management.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have the following:

* Bachelor’s Degree required with a concentration in business or finance.
* 3+ years experience in underwriting FHA loans with DE designation (experience must be at least within the last year).
* Experience working with DU and LP automated underwriting engines preferred.
* Strong knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to the mortgage banking industry (i.e. RESPA, TILA, ECOA, etc.).
* Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
* Aptitude to work independently as well as part of a team.
* Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
* Good communication (both verbal and written) and analytical skills are necessary.
* Excellent customer service skills with a high attention to detail.
